Independence Community College is a proud member of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, widely known as the best community college athletic conference in the country. Pirate teams have enjoyed tremendous success throughout the years with numerous conference and national honors. Athletic programs at ICC include football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, men's golf, Football, softball, as well as cheer and dance.

Some of the accomplishments Pirate teams have accomplished over the years include:

• 3-time NJCAA men's basketball national champions (1963, 1977, 1978)
• 7th most wins in NJCAA men's basketball history
• 8-time Region VI men's basketball champions
• 4-time Region VI women's basketball champions
• 2004 Elite 8 in NJCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament
• 4 football bowl appearances (1977 Wool Bowl, 1986 Valley of the Sun Bowl, 1987 Dixie Rotary Bowl, 1997 Valley of the Sun Bowl)
• 3 NJCAA national champions in track and field
• 2 NJCAA national champions in tennis
• 33 Jayhawk Conference championships
• 95 All-Americans in sports
