ICC 2013 Baseball Recap
The ICC Pirate Baseball team made another successful step in the right direction during the 2013 season. The Pirates made the post-season for the second time in school history, the last time being in 2008. Coach Schultz and Coach Joy are very happy with their team’s accomplishments in their second years coaching the program.
The Pirates earned three all-conference players:
- Brenton Washausen garnered 2nd team all-conference 3B and finished 3rd in freshman of the year voting.
- Ryan Justus earned 2nd team all-conference utility/DH.
- Derek Hackney finished honorable mention SS.
The season was highlighted by winning 3 out of 4 games on the road against the Neosho Co. Panthers. The Panthers were ranked #11 in the country at the time and represented the conference at Grand Junction Colorado at the Juco World Series. The Pirates also beat the Cowley County Tigers at home when the Tigers were the #2 ranked team in the country.
The coaching staff is very excited about the returning players along with the talented group of incoming freshmen. The Pirate squad returns 15 squad members and brings in 22 newcomers. The group will be very talented, deep, and athletic.
